Since the 2023-2024 school year,  our Library Learning Commons has organized all resources by Indigenous Canadian and Native American authors and resources written in partnership/collaboration with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers in a distinct collection.

This collection is organized using  the Brian Deer Classification system rather than the Dewey Decimal system. Brian Deer was a Mohawk librarian who worked with Elders and Knowledge Keepers during the mid 1970s to classify resources based on Indigenous ways of knowing.

Our Indigenous Education Collection represents one important step towards towards Truth and Reconciliation, and will help educate our Vic High community about Indigenous literature, issues, and perspectives.
